System Field-Allowed Types

OVERVIEW

The ‘Allowed Types’ system field allows users to select which work items can be added as child items, ensuring compliance with the hierarchy settings configured in the admin section.

The “Allowed Types” field is a multi-select field that users cannot edit.

This field is not available for the Defect work item.

HOW TO ADD ALLOWED TYPES FIELD:

  • Go to the Admin Page and select Field Layout in the Customization section.
  • Choose a work item from the work item drop-down list.
  • Drag and drop the Allowed Types field from the right-hand section into the desired position within the work item field layout section.

The Document work item is distinct, with unique Allowed Types functionality that differentiates it from other work item types.

Understanding the Allowed Types field for work items

The Allowed Types field displays all active work items in the dropdown, regardless of hierarchy settings in the Admin section, allowing users to add any item as a child. By selecting specific items in the Allowed Types field, only those with defined hierarchy settings will appear in the add items pop-up, making the selection process more efficient.

Work items

When you define the Allowed Types field for a work item, it only affects the specific parent item for which it is set. This configuration does not impact the child or sub-child items of the selected parent item.

Document Item

When you define the Allowed Types field for a Document work item, it affects not only the specific parent item but also its child and sub-child items. This configuration applies to the entire hierarchy under the selected parent item.
